Is My Utah Baby Ready For Solids?

May 16th, 2012 by agifford

Is My Utah Baby Ready For Solids?

Although Provo pediatricians generally recommend starting infants on solid foods when they are around six months of age, there are important developmental milestones that must be reached before your baby can take this step.

Even if an infant’s digestive system is ready for solid food, the baby must be able to safely swallow it. A baby should be able to sit with assistance but hold his or head up on their own. Without head and neck control, eating solids is difficult and dangerous. Many Provo pediatricians also advise parents to wait until an infant shows interest in what other family members are eating.

If you are unsure if your infant is ready for solid food, check with your Provo pediatrician. Remember that for the first year your baby’s nutrition will still come primarily from breast milk or formula.

Health Benefits of Draper…Dirt!

May 10th, 2012 by agifford

Health Benefits of Draper Dirt!

Most Draper parents know about the health benefits of gardening as a family: spending time outdoors, working together, establishing a connection to the food we eat, better nutrition, and many more.

Something not so well known in Draper is that the dirt itself contains beneficial bacteria that can aid in depression, cognitive functioning, and even in fighting some cancers.

Working with soil in Draper – digging, pulling weeds, harvesting vegetables – exposes Utah kids and parents to a strain of bacteria called mycobacterium vaccae. Recent research reveals that m. vaccae triggers the release of seratonin, which can elevate mood and reduce stress.

In one study, two groups of mice were fed peanut butter sandwiches before finding their way through a difficult maze. One of the groups had m. vaccae spread on the sandwiches. The mice that ingested the bacteria ran the maze twice as fast and exhibited half as many stress behaviors as the mice that didn’t have the bacteria.

Think of Draper kids in the ‘good ole’ days,’ running around on unpaved roads, playing in meadows, forests, and dirt piles, and half of the time probably bare-foot. It is quite a different childhood than the sanitized version that exists in our society today. Children not only need more time out-of-doors, but they need to get dirty! Let your Draper neighbors hear you yell: ‘Kids, go outside and get dirty!’

Bountiful, Bluffdale, and Provo parents may do themselves and their children a favor by adding to their kids’ emotional, physical, and intellectual health by letting them play in the dirt!

My name is Adam Green and I want to help Draper families raise healthy, happy kids. Issues such as proper nutrition for children and childhood obesity in Bountiful concern me. I am the owner of a Salt Lake City area home business that sells X Power Squares.

Underemployed in Draper?

May 9th, 2012 by agifford

Underemployed in Draper?

While unemployment statistics are the numbers that usually make the news, underemployment is usually more common here in Draper. Working Salt Lake City people who are ‘underemployed’ have jobs that are not sufficient. This usually means the position is part-time or it doesn’t pay enough.

One solution for people in the Salt Lake City area who find themselves underemployed is to start a home based business. I’m Adam Green and I have a home business selling X Power Squares in and around Provo, Bluffdale, and Bountiful.

Members of my Winner’s Circle team enjoy earning supplemental income in their free time, and they find that the personal nature of direct sales is the optimal way to sell X Power Squares.

If you are an underemployed Draper resident who would like the opportunity to earn residual income from home, call me at 801-809-7766. I would love to tell you why I chose Winner’s Circle for my Draper home business.

Bountiful Kid’s Health: Guard Against Chapped Skin

May 3rd, 2012 by agifford

Bountiful Kids Health Guard Against Chapped Skin

When it comes to your Bountiful child’s health, you might first think of their diet. While putting vitamins and minerals inside your child’s body is important, you also need to pay attention to what is going on on the outside. I’m talking about your child’s skin.

The skin is our body’s largest organ and when skin’s smoothness is disrupted, small cracks and openings can create an entryway for bacteria and germs.

Active Bountiful kids don’t often think of the condition of their skin until it starts hurting. Playing outside in hot, cold, or dry weather can lead to small cracks around knuckles or nails. This painful condition is called dermatitis, or extreme dryness. Temperature extremes in Bountiful make it harder to keep skin moist and healthy – dry, chapped and cracked skin is common in summer and winter.

Many kids lick their lips until they turn red or bleed. Reminding your child to drink plenty of water can prevent over-dryness.  Using a humidifier during the night in your child’s bedroom can also help.

Make sure you leave moisturizing lip balm in handy locations: by their bed, the front door and in the car so reapplying it becomes habit. Remind them to slick some over their cuticles as well, to prevent cracking.

Bluffdale dermatologists suggest a using a daily skin moisturizer that contains shea butter and aloe to draw moisture into the skin and keep it in place.

Encourage Bluffdale kids to use waterproof gloves when playing outside in the cold. Lightweight gloves with grips added to the palms are great for playing ball and riding bikes. In addition to protecting skin from dryness, they keep small hands from slipping. You can pick these up at Utah sporting good stores or Bluffdale big box stores.

Using a non-drying sanitizer is another way to prevent bacteria from entering through the skin. Look for brands that are alcohol-free to prevent excessive dryness.

For additional tips for Bluffdale children’s health and to learn about a nutritional supplement kids love, contact me today at 801-809-7766!

Fresh Ideas For Healthy Meal Planning In Utah

May 2nd, 2012 by agifford

Fresh Ideas For Healthy Meal Planning In Utah

Utah children’s nutrition experts say that family mealtime is a must for Bluffdale parents who want to know what their children are eating and stay on top of their kids’ nutritional needs. But with busy schedules, allergies, and different food preferences, planning meals can be a challenge. Here are some fresh ideas:

To simplify things, first make a list of all the foods your kids enjoy, healthy and non-healthy included. Study this list to discover ingredient combinations or cooking techniques they prefer. Then find recipes for healthy meal makeovers.

Make your own frozen meals. Just double or triple the recipe of a favorite casserole dish and store the extras in the freezer so the next long day or unscheduled event won’t tempt you to eat Bountiful drive-up or unhealthy microwaveable convenience meals.

If members of your family have allergies or are super-particular, make a large plain meal and have lots of healthy toppings available so everyone can customize their own meal. This works great for tacos, pizza, sandwiches, salads and baked potatoes.

Another time-saving tip for Bountiful parents: cook enough hamburger, steak, or chicken breasts for two or three different meals during the week.

For more tips on children’s nutrition in Bountiful or to order a tasty nutritional supplement made from the cacao bean, contact me today!

Prevent Classroom Sickness In Provo

April 27th, 2012 by agifford

Prevent Classroom Sickness In Provo

To curb the spread of viruses, lice, and other kid’s health threats in Provo schools, parents need to teach their kids proper hygiene practices and review them on a regular basis.

Here is a rundown of some unwelcome classroom visitors and steps to combat them:

  • Head lice: wash hands frequently, don’t share combs, hats, scarves.
  • Ringworm (skin infection with circular lesions, not actually caused by worms): keep sores covered, don’t share combs or clothing.
  • Pinkeye: vigilant hand washing can help stop the spread. Provo parents should keep kids home if their eyes are pink or draining fluid.
  • Colds, flu, strep: anti-bacterial wipes and no-rinse hand sanitizer can supplement soap and water scrubbing. Remind kids not to share drinks, snacks, lotion, chap stick, and lip gloss.

Provo children who know and practice these safeguards will be prepared when the next H1N1 threat visits Salt Lake City.

I promote children’s health issues in Salt Lake City. For information on my health business, contact me today.

SpongeBob Doesn’t Care About Your Salt Lake City Child’s Health

April 20th, 2012 by agifford

SpongeBob Doesn't Care About Your Salt Lake City Child's Health

National and local Salt Lake City food advertisers can sabotage your Draper child’s health. Food manufacturers, like most Salt Lake City corporations, are motivated by profit, not by what’s best for Draper kids.

Their tools are deceptive language, cartoon characters, celebrities, and false promises of popularity. Draper parents can help youth better handle the constant media barrage by teaching them:

The components of a healthy diet
The implied messages and false promises of Draper food ads
Nutritional balance and moderation
How to read and understand Salt Lake City food labels
How excessive TV watching and internet viewing can affect health

If you encounter a local Draper food ad that is deceptive, contact the Salt Lake City Better Business Bureau. To complain about national ads, send a letter to the Children’s Advertising Review Unit, Council of Better Business Bureaus, 845 Third Ave, New York, NY 10022.

Nothing will change until Salt Lake City families unite to fight deceptive advertising aimed at Draper children. For more information on children’s nutrition in Salt Lake City, call me today.

Where Will Your Bountiful Home Business Take You?

April 18th, 2012 by agifford

Where Will Your Bountiful Home Business Take You?

Hello! Welcome to today’s Bountiful home based business article. When you start a home based business or online store in Bountiful, you never know where it may take you.

Do you think Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ever dreamed his small web-based bookstore would grow into the largest online retailer? Bezos started his enterprise in the garage of his home in Bellevue, Washington.

All types of businesses are started in Bountiful homes: manufacturing, accounting, day spas, catering, music/dance instruction, personal training, and a whole bunch of online retailers and service providers.

Even during times of economic stagnation, ambitious Bountiful entrepreneurs build lucrative businesses from scratch. All of the top earning Salt Lake City businesses started somewhere. In many cases that ‘somewhere’ was a garage, spare room, or a laptop on the kitchen counter.

Dream big with the Xobiotic low start-up business opportunity in Bountiful.

Can Your Bountiful Home Business Customers Contact You?

April 13th, 2012 by agifford

Can Your Bountiful Home Business Customers Contact You? Welcome Bountiful entrepreneurs! If you would like to contact me, here is my information:

entrepreneur Adam Green
Draper, Utah 84020
801-809-7766   g3president@comcast.net

The reason I included my contact info at the beginning of this post is because today’s article discusses the importance of accessibility.

Your contact information is probably the most important thing to include in your Utah small business communications. I am surprised, however, at how many Bountiful home business owners don’t understand this simple fact. Neglecting the most basic things can cause major problems for anyone: Bountiful home business owners as well as presidential candidates.

Those of you who are old enough to recall the 2000 US presidential election may remember how the layout of the Florida state ballots confused some voters and was a complicating factor in the recount. (Remember the hanging chads?) I doubt that the candidates worried about the design of each state ballot. However, all the campaigning in the world is wasted if the voters can’t figure out how to cast a vote for you. Likewise, all the internet marketing in the world won’t bring you sales if your internet business customers can’t contact you.

ListPipe, the corporate blogging experts point out that many Bountiful home business blog visitors only enter your site to quickly copy your contact information. Make sure your Xobiotic customers can easily copy and paste your email address and/or phone number into their contact formats.

Now consider the other side of the coin: how can you easily get your customers’ information? Many Bountiful internet marketers use built-in contact forms that automatically capture your customer’s information and email it to you. If you are not currently using content forms, you may want to take a look at them.

Operating a successful Bountiful business depends to a large extent on paying attention to the simple things. If you would like more tips, give me a call at 801-809-7766. That’s 801-809-7766. Or email g3president@comcast.net. That’s g3president@comcast.net. I am Adam Green.
